Trio Of Altered Wood Frames

Hey everyone..welcome back for another scrappy post. Today it's all about a Tri of Altered frames I made for my daughter's upcoming birthday. I have quite a few photos to share with you along with a tutorial on how I made each frame AND I will have a quick video that shows the final project up close. So let's get started : )

First let me start with the final project.....
A Cork Board, Chalkboard and a Dry Erase Board.

And here are the frames pretty much in the state I found them at the thrift shop...
I've had these in my stash for awhile now & I knew I wanted to make some functional boards for Kaley's room.Below is a photo of the items I used for this project..with the exception of the bling..flowers & patterned CS.
The first step was to paint the edges of the frames. I also painted the inside rim as well just to make sure none of the wood would show through.
While the paint was drying I scored & cut my corrugated cardboard into the lengths I needed for all 3 frames. Even though the cardboard was corrugated..I still needed to make score marks for the widths I needed. Love this tool!!

After the paint was dry I used some Scor-Tape to attach the CS to the frames. I say this all sincerity...I seriously LOVE Scor-Tape..I use it all the time on almost all of my projects. So in my mind there was no other adhesive that would do the job! The scoring tool that comes with your Scor-Pal comes in handy to burnish the Scor-Tape to the CS.
Here are the 3 frames after the CS has been added.

Chalkboard Frame:

I used more of the Scor-Tape to adhere the Chalkboard CS from DCWV to some heavy chipboard.

I wanted to make my own box from scratch to hold the extra chalk so I used the Scor-Pal to create the lines I needed & the Scor-Tape to hold it all together.
I used some of the 1/8" Scor-Tape in the corners for my strips of twine. I used more the tape to adhere the chalk box to the frame. It's super sturdy & I know it's not going anywhere!!

Cork board Fram:
To make this board..I cut some cork board to fit & used more of the Scor-Tape to adhere the cork board to some heavy duty chipboard.
To make this "notes"sign I adhered some CS to a piece of chipboard using some Scor-Tape. I distressed the edges...added some bling sticker letters & tied it off with some pretty ribbon.
I wanted to make a flower for the upper right corner of this board so I took more of the pink/black polka dot ribbon and made a flower. For the base I punched a circle from some scratch CS...covered it with some Scor-Tape and then folded the ribbon around the circle & topped it off with some black bling. Pretty cute huh?
I added some hot pink push pins so the board is ready for use. The flower looks adorable...it helps to balance out the frame I think.

Dry Erase Board:
Ok I am really excited about this one. Not only did I use Scor-Tape on this one BUT I also used the actual clear plastic cover from the Scor-Pal packaging...pretty clever right?? ;) I just cut the plastic to fit the frame & adhered it to some bright pink CS. I didn't want to use white since the theme is black & pink.
The 1/8" Scor-Tape was perfect for the edge of the pink CS. It doesn't show through onto the clear plastic which is awesome!!
Just like the chalkboard I wanted to make my own holder for the dry erase markers. I used a TP roll..covered it with some CS using Scor-Tape to hold it all together.
I ran a strip of the 1" Scor-Tape on the backside of the holder and adhered it to the frame. It is super sturdy and will handle the weight of many pens while hanging on the wall.
I wanted to share this step with you as well. This is something I did on all 3 of my frames. In addition to the backing of the frames I used some Scor-Tape on the inside of the frame to secure the different inserts snuggly to the frame. This tape is just awesome & hasn't failed me yet in the year's I've been using it.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial of my Trio of Altered Wood Frames. This was such a fun project to create for my daughter & I can't wait to see her reaction when she opens this present..I will be sure to post a picture : )

Here's a quick video to show you the different boards up close...

Not only is this a tutorial showing you how to alter frames on your own but it's also my application for the Scor-Pal Design Team Call. When I saw this DT listed I knew I had to apply as I seriously use their products all the time and as I mentioned above..I LOVE their Scor-Tape and use it on so many of my projects...it's just awesome stuff & I couldn't image crafting without it : )

Altered Clipboard-Purple of course : )

Hey everyone..I have a super fun and super easy project to share with you today. If you're a regular follower of my blog or know me in real life then you know that I love to go junkin & pick up all kinds of treasures that I can alter or scrap up. Well today's project is all about one of my finds....an altered clipboard.

This is just your basic brown clipboard you can pretty much find anywhere BUT I picked this little thing up for a quarter!! I wanted to make something that I could use in my room and clip inspirational photos or project ideas on. So I had to go with a purple color scheme of course : )

I painted the entire clipboard with some tan/beige craft paint. then sanded the edges for a distressed look. I used the Chateau Lavender stack from DCWV...cut the papers to the size I wanted and then used Modge Podge on the whole thing. I didn't want the edges of the CS to come up when I actually used it.

For the bottom I added some flowers..bling and some buttons. I used these really cool embellis from Mon Ami Gabby they're called Bon Bons and they are a lot of fun to play with. I thought they made kind of a cool little design on the bottom corner. I just applied some Glossy Accents on the pattern in the CS and added the Bon Bons & added a strip of some velvet like trim.

Topped off the clipboard with a variety of lace, ribbon & trim.

Here's the backside...

Such a fun project to make!!

Thanks for stopping by and thank you also for the sweet comments you all leave me...I truly appreciate each one of them : )

Happy Scrappin!!

Kaley's Adventure Journal & Video

Hey everyone...sorry for the long gap in posts. It has been crazy busy in my world. We have school starting today and I've been busy with the family for the past week getting ready for that and trying to cram in some last minute summer fun : )

Today I have a special project to share that I made for my daughter, Kaley. Her birthday is coming up in a few weeks and she'll officially become a teenager...yikes...how did that happen??? She starts 7th grade today and I wanted to make something that she could use to write down memories, have friends sign & to hold photos...sort of give her something to look back on.

Before I post the photos I wanted to also let you know that I have a short video that gives you more detail of the actual project. I recorded this late last night while the kids/hubby were sleeping so no laughing ; )

This is kind of my version of a Smash Journal. I mostly used office supply items along with some bling & other scrappy items. She loves black & pink...there's also a little bit of green in there too as it's also one of her faves. I won't go into too much detail of each page since I have the video below.

I used some of the ring binders you would find at an office supply store to hold the journal together. The base of the journal is made from recycled manilla file folders.

Wood letters...cool huh?

Love the chunkiness of this journal!!

Here's my video..........

I cannot wait to see her face when she opens this on her birthday...she does check my blog but I'm hoping she won't see this post since she'll be busy with school & volleyball. So for all my real life friends who read my blog...don't say anything to Kaley about this until after her birthday : )

I will have a supply list below but since I used a ton & I mean a ton of office & scrappy items I can't remember each one so it will mostly be the stuff I remember.

I'm also entering this in the current Office Supply challenge at Frosted Designs.

Thanks for stopping by & for letting me share one of Kaley's birthday gifts I'm making for her.

Be sure to come back tomorrow for another scrappy post...I'll be showing you an altered clipboard project.

Happy Scrappin!!
